Frequently Asked Questions
What is Percale?
Percale simply refers to the type of weave used to make the fabric – a percale weave uses a traditional criss-cross pattern - one thread over, and one thread under.
A percale cotton weave produces a matte finish, creating a smooth sheet that feels crisp and cool to the touch. High quality percale sheets made with fine yarns and long cotton fibres will feel extremely luxurious and breathable. Percale sheets are a bedroom must-have and provide a relaxed, lived-in look to any setting.
If you like the sensation of luxurious sheets that you find in boutique hotels then you’ll love a percale weave. The cool and crisp feel, plus the excellent breathability of these sheets, are a bedroom staple all year long.
What is Jacquard?
Jacquard is a textured fabric that has complex patterns woven into it – rather than printed, dyed, or embroidered – and can be created from any material. Jacquard weaving has its origins in sixth-century Italian brocade, and it remains one of the most popular and luxurious fabrics to this day.
Similar to Léman Living’s 100% organic cotton jacquard duvet covers, you will see silk and cotton jacquard at the high-end and traditional applications, while modern designs integrate this luxurious fabric with a wider variety of fibres such as our cotton and linen blends.
The higher cost of jacquard is offset by its magnificent aesthetic appearance which brings a touch of elegance to every bedroom. The fabric’s beauty, combined with its softness and moisture absorption properties, undoubtedly make jacquard one of the most coveted fabrics.
What is a GOTS certification and what does it mean?
GOTS stands for the Global Organic Textile Standard and it is universally recognized as the leading standard for the processing of textile goods using organic fibers, including environmentally oriented, technical and social criteria. The Global Organic Textile Standard covers not just the raw materials, but the entire production process based on the use of organic fibers - from textile processing and manufacturing up to licensing and labelling. The result is an internationally recognized organic certification demonstrating the commitment to providing sustainable, ethical, and high-quality products.
What about the Oeko-Tex Standard 100?
Our products are certified to the Oeko-Tex 100 Standard as well. However, it is important to note that even though the Oeko Tex 100 Standard ensures a mostly chemical-free production, it does allow some synthetic pesticides prohibited by GOTS. Also Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is not an organic certification.
